BUBBLES IN A POEM’S ILLUSTRATION

ELIXIR

Water may be

The elixir of life,

But love is

The elixir of Humanity.

To go with the above poem, Simon Stargazer III (Oct.’10) sent me a little drawing of a stemmed glass filled with liquid and bubbles rising from it. Immediately, my mind went to of the draw-a-bubble game from Dec. 2009 and I thought, “Surely, if he imagined blowing bubbles, his illustration would be like his drawing: many that rise into the sky. The unconscious is always at work with artists.”

But, just to be sure, I asked Simon if he agreed with what the authors of Kokology, Tadahiko Nagao and Isamu Saito, said about seeing many rising bubbles, “…You see your own dreams as elusive and unattainable…whatever the (reason) may be, the gap between your dreams and reality is wide…”

On consideration, Simon said, “I see my dreams as opportunities. Expectation is the beginning of the rest of my life, a life where expectation becomes reality, a reality built on my decisions and follow through. I expect happiness and success …and I earn it with determination. You will note that the bubbles have smiles in them. They represent the love that I give up in praises for the Lord, as I ask for His help in achieving my dreams. For through Him, all things are possible. This is a truth I have found demonstrated in my work and my writing.” Editor, Frances
