act I

You cross my t’s and dot my i’s,

make capital impression.

You fill in all the commas too,

and clarify expression.

You finish all my sentences,

and add parenthesis.

You supplement my lifelong tale

with whole new emphasis.

You do encourage all my verbs

to race across the pages;

You support my creativity,

oh, ye of learned sages.

My adjectives and adverbs are

enhanced by your quotation.

The exclamation point of it?

My life has punctuation!

Gail (Dec.’10) adds, “This poem represents the beginning of my long distance romance with a high school friend forty years later. He had a rather lofty job in state government, primarily using his college English Major.”
