can’t wait to get to heaven

This title is a novel, written by Fannie Flagg. She is the author of Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café from which the movie “Fried Green Tomatoes” was made.

In Can’t Wait to Get to Heaven, Flagg takes her readers back to a small town in Missouri where high-spirited Elner Shimfissle inspires a town to reflect on the meaning of life. Eighty-nine-year-old Elner is a delight. She uses the mind and heart she’s been given. In her folksy view of life, her truths emerge. She believes in love and compassion, and that people are put on earth to enjoy their lives.

The book has many laugh-aloud moments and is a delightful read. It is filled with Southern warmth. Flagg writes with raw emotion and refreshing honesty. There are some surprises, too.

June Poucher (Nov.’10) adds: “This is a rewarding, feel-good book, with many chuckles. I urge you to pick up a copy and enjoy.”
