The second step

Is acting on self-knowledge.

Simon Stargazer (Apr. ’11) explains, “Editor Frances asked how I got my self-knowledge. It was probably due to two major things. One was ‘The Book of Life’. By that, I mean the experience I gained over the past years working directly with people. To help them better I found that I had to discover and work on some of my own weakness. This knowledge helps me turn some of my limitations into strengths and work more effectively with others. The other important influence on my life was attending a Quaker boarding school during my high school years. I learned diversity when I had roommates from many countries. And, one important concept I learned from Quakerism is listening to that ‘still small voice within’. I guess that is the equivalent to meditation, so — indeed– Quakers meditate.”
