PLEASING CLASSICS

I have gone back and read some classics I didn’t get a chance to enjoy before.   Here are notes on a few.

Lost Horizons is a fiction volume by James Hilton and was originally published in 1933.  What a treat it was!  I loved it. It was good reading when I couldn’t find anything else that really suited me.

Another I enjoyed was, To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee. It was published in 1960 and dealt with race issues in 1930’s America.  I had to ask myself, “Why did I never read this?”

Last, but not least is, Green Mansions, A Romance of the Tropical Forest. The story is about a traveler to the jungle of Venezuela and written by W. H. Hudson.  I had this little blue book in my library for many years.  It was old and only about half the size of a normal volume.  I never paid much attention to it. I don’t even remember where I bought it.

The book is a love story written in 1916 and wonderful!  And, it was right in my own library, under my nose.

M.Joan (Aug. ‘12) adds, “I just never know what I might discover next!”
