When Katie, an attractive young woman escaping from an abusive husband, arrives in a small southern town, she attempts to keep a low profile.

She changes her identity in an effort to evade her detective husband’s search for her. She is reluctant to form any personal ties.

However, when she meets a widowed store owner with two young children, she is drawn to them. She also has a friendly, outgoing plainspoken neighbor, Jo.

While Nicholas Sparks’ story, Safe Haven, progresses and the outcome seems predictable, the ending surprised and delighted me.

I like the author’s style and free flowing narrative. It makes for pleasant reading.

June Poucher (Sept. ‘15 ) adds, “I have read several of Sparks’ books and this is his best one.”
